Xander Prepares to Go to War With EJ [Recap]

On today’s Days of Our Lives recap:
Jack and Steve are hanging at the Brady Pub talking baseball. Their wives are away and they note they are both in bachelor mode. They talk about his upcoming drive to Boston and how different it will be in an empty car.
Steve brings up how he is now sort of a grandparent and they get into the Joy and Kelsey of it all. He brings up how Stephanie can’t be involved and how much it hurts to see your child in pain.
Arianna arrives at the pub and heads over to chat with Grandma Kate. She is dying to chat about what she overheard Johnny and EJ discussing. She heard EJ says, “There is nothing to worry about. Holly doesn’t know anything about it.” Neither understand what the words mean but Kate thinks her granddaughter should ask Holly.
Chad is at The Spectator (in a different office set) as he reviews the resume of a prospective reporter, when a very cheery EJ arrives on the scene. He immediately brings up Chad’s upcoming trip with Belle to Italy.
Chad says he and Belle are going to Italy to enjoy the sights and each other. EJ isn’t buying what he’s selling and believes they are headed to Italy to investigate the chess set their father left Marlena. Chad neither confirms nor denies but wonders why his brother cares. EJ giggles and simply says he is curious.
Chad thinks the situation is none of his concern, but EJ says it’s a part of their father’s legacy. Just then, Jack arrives and EJ makes his exit.
Jack asks about the search for the new Metro Editor, but Chad says he’s hit a dead end. Jack seems to have an idea that might work.
Belle is at the townhouse with Marlena. She confirms her cleared schedule at work in advance of her trip, that evening, with Chad. She tells her mother she and Chad will be just fine before noticing the cut on Marlena’s finger. She says she was distracted during needlepoint and Belle inquires, sending her mother into a flashback.
Marlena hopes Belle and Chad will have a little time for romance and notes one of her weddings to John was in Italy. She tells her daughter about John giving her a coin and wishing for their love to grow stronger. Belle stops short and asks if it is the same coin she found at her father’s grave. Marlena confirms and pulls it from her purse. She wants her daughter to take it to Italy so her father will watch over her during the investigation. Belle pushes back a bit and then accepts and promises to take care of it.
Xander is at the Kiriakis mansion surrounded by boxes as the sale of the property is moving forward. Sarah walks in and looks on with grief at the state of the house and her ex-husband.
Sarah says she was moving Holly into the dorms and came by to see if he needed any assistance packing up. Just then, Holly walks in wanting to speak with both of them. She says she just ran into EJ and almost blurted out she knows about him planting the drugs and being responsible for her poisoning. Holly hated looking at his smug self-satisfied grin and not letting him know just how close they are to nailing his ass.
Xander apologizes as the loss of Titan and the mansion has sidetracked him. He and Sarah promise they will make EJ pay for what all his crimes. Left alone, Sarah is furious and wants EJ the hell away from her niece.

Arianna arrives back at her dorm room and startles Holly (who is apparently now in her Grande era). She asks about Arianna’s boring internship, and her bestie indicates today was anything but. Arianna tells her about what she overheard, but Holly plays dumb saying she doesn’t know about what he could be speaking.
Sarah storms into the DiMera mansion as EJ pours himself a little dark liquor. They go back and forth about their mutual distaste for one another before Sarah says she thinks EJ is losing as much as the Kiriakis family, mentioning the hospital. EJ giggles at the conflict saying Gwen may take the hospital from him but could also snatch Xander right from under her nose.
Sarah says she and Xander are divorced and he is sadly mistaken if he thinks anything Gwen does with her ex-beloved will get under her skin. He says she can’t blame him for every misfortune which befalls the Kiriakis family. Sarah lights into him about the loan of it all but EJ says he only did it because of what happened with Johnny. EJ is certain Sarah would have done something similar if the same happened to Victoria. Sarah says karma is coming for EJ, and she is a bitch on wheels. He continues to pretend to not know what she is talking about and Sarah makes her exit. Afterwards, EJ calls Rita and demands she stay on top of pharmaceutical George as Sarah is poking around the Coriseal situation.
Marlena meets up with Steve at the Brady Pub and tells all about the chess set and Belle and Chad’s investigation which soon heads to Italy. She wants to hire him to find out who is feeding her daughter and Chad clues and why.
Jack meets up with Kate in Horton Square and says how sorry he is about what’s happening with Titan. He can’t help with their debt but is wondering if Kate would be interested in the Metro Editor position at The Spectator.
Xander boxes up Victor’s portrait when he gets a call from Holly. She tells him all about Arianna’s report from DiMera and Xander promises not to implicate Arianna.
Later…
Jack tells Kate she is the perfect candidate for the position at The Spectator. He says he hasn’t consulted Chad and Kate promises to think about it.
EJ chats with Rita about Belle and Chad’s upcoming trip and asks her to also look into the chess set of it all.
Marlena tells Steve she can’t believe Belle is chasing a Stefano based mystery and John isn’t with them to assist. Steve gets it but thinks Belle is doing exactly what her father would do if he were still with them.
Belle and Chad are back at the townhouse toasting to their trip when they hear a knock at the door. Belle finds a bottle of dom perignon on her doorstep with a note reading “dom voyage” from EJ.
Sarah arrives back at the Kiriakis mansion and says how upset she is about all of EJ’s horrifying acts leading her to confront their nemesis. Xander thinks he can help and brings up the call from Holly. He tells her all about what Arianna overheard and they both wonder how they are going to prove EJ’s guilt.
