Spoiler alert! Texas-sized reveals from the "Dutton Ranch" Season 1 finale, now streaming on Paramount+
The "Dutton Ranch" Season 1 finale showcases a cry of anguish that will ripple forever through the ever-expanding Taylor Sheridan TV Universe.
Oreana Jackson (Natalie Alyn Lind) finds her troubled father, Rob-Will (Jai Courtney), dead by gunshot wound in the foyer. Barefoot and bloodied, she lets out a howl that causes her forehead veins to throb. The death of the "Dutton Ranch" main villain is the biggest, not just for the finale, but the entire first season of the "Yellowstone" spinoff.
The sight of just-departed dad bleeding on the foyer carpet is obviously a trauma for poor Oreana, and a major moment for the horror-movie-loving Lind, 26, the star of "Pet Sematary: Bloodlines."
"One of my favorite things to do in movies or TV is scream, even if I'm running away from an ax murderer," Lind tells USA TODAY, calling the night of shooting her TV father's death "very emotional."
"I prepared upstairs in a little waiting room. I was already covered in blood for the scene," says Lind. "I was listening to sad music, trying to get myself set mentally. Because it is such a shocking sight for Oreana."
Rob-Will's death comes after terrible father makes peace with Oreana
The death is all the more painful as substance-abusing father Rob-Will's final act is reaching out to his wild-child daughter, who is packing to run away with her young love, Carter (Finn Little).
In that touching moment, Rob-Will, the son of formidable family ranch owner Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening), hugs his daughter tenderly. "I love you more than this place will ever love either of us back," he says.
Then he walks downstairs to find out who's knocking on the door. We find out later it's his half-brother Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) doing the business. But Rob-Will is already lying in a pool of blood before that revelation.
"It's heartbreaking to have that moment together before her dad dies," says Lind. "Oreana's life is going to change forever going into Season 2. She's just experienced the most traumatic thing ever. She's going to be a different person."
Beulah walks into the room and breaks down, seeing her long-troubled son dead and her wayward granddaughter slapping her dad's face in a futile effort to wake him up. Beulah meets Oreana's devastated look.
"There is something beautiful about these two experiencing this trauma together," says Lind. "It's such a shock for both of them."

Oreana is pregnant! Is Carter the father?
Oreana and Carter have had sporadic romantic trysts. But their relationship remains undefined, and kind of over after Carter drunkenly ruins Beulah's big party. However, the finale shows Oreana eyeing the positive results of a pregnancy test before asking Carter to run away together and start over. She never mentions the pregnancy.
"I'm under the impression that Carter is the father," says Lind. "But you never really know with this girl."
The idea to get away from the toxic ranch life makes sense.
"I'm not surprised that they're running off together," says Lind. "I love the fact that Oreana and Carter both come from these broken families, and they have this trauma presented on them their entire life. It's what has drawn them together and it feels very authentic."
Life with the Jacksons has been tough for Oreana, who never even knew who her mother was.
"The Jacksons are filled with all this resentment and hate and manipulation," says Lind. "From the beginning of the show, Oreana has been fighting against her family's bloodlines, trying to take a different path from the toxic cycle that has been in her family's genes for generations."
The young lovers plan is further thwarted by Carter's kidnapping!
Oreana packs to run away with Carter, hilariously adding another pair off cut-off jeans to the travel bag as she's wearing another of her wardrobe staple. "Oreana is a jean-shorts kind of girl," says Lind.
She has just finished adding her curling iron to the bag when her dad is shot dead downstairs. The lover's runaway plan is further thwarted by Carter being taken hostage by the cartel, which had been soundly defeated in a gun battle against the Dutton clan — that skirmish featured Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and kindly veterinarian Everett (Ed Harris) going full-Rambo. The cartel drew first blood by attacking.
And the surviving cartel scoundrels gets the parting shot by kidnapping beloved Carter, putting a hood on him and taking the boy off.
All of this is next season's problems, which could see Oreana become part of the Jackson clan after all, based on the telling look with Beulah.
What will happen in 'Dutton Ranch' Season 2?
There are many more unanswered questions after the Season 1 finale and Taylor Sheridan keeps his cards close to his chest, even from cast and crew. So Lind insists she has no idea what's in store for Season 2.
Even if/when Carter is saved, it would appear the couple's runaway love has halted. Lind won't say.
"I know some stuff," says Lind. "For Season 2. there's definitely a reason that Oreana behaves the way she does. And we will find out some of that. People have known the Duttons for so long. But there's so much story to tell from the Jacksons' perspective."
