Cedar Point is gearing up for its new season, which opens May 9 with Top Thrill 2 and Siren's Curse, two of the parks newest roller coasters, ready to roll alongside other new events for 2026.

You can certainly fly high those two or one of the other record-breaking roller coasters at the theme park. But if you need to fly in for a visit, the best option for an airport might surprise you.

Here's what to know.

Where is Cedar Point?

Cedar Point is located in Sandusky, Ohio. It's on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Erie, and only two roads lead to the park.

It's not far from Interstate 80, the Ohio Turnpike, providing easy access to cities within reasonable driving distance.

But if you're further away, you still have options.

What's the closest airport to Cedar Point? Look east for the answer

There are a couple of ways to consider that question.

The closest airport, physically, to Cedar Point is the Erie-Ottawa International Airport, between Port Clinton and Sandusky, Ohio, and about 15 miles from the park. According to its website, the airport offers local flight services, including charters. It might be an airport to consider if you're a pilot with a private plane that can land at such a field.

A bit farther away from the park is the Sandusky County Regional Airport in Clyde, Ohio (about 30 miles southwest of the park), which offers much of the same services as Erie-Ottawa.

Most people, however, are looking to catch a commercial flight to the area. Given that Sandusky is in Northwest Ohio, like Toledo, you might think the Toledo Express Airport would be the closest. But Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has it beat, both in distance and drive time.

How to get to Cedar Point from the airport from the Cleveland and Toledo airports

The Toledo airport is roughly 70 miles from the park; about an hour and 20 minutes drive per Google Maps. In comparison, the Cleveland airport is 55 miles from Cedar Point; about an hour's drive.

The fastest routes for both involve taking the Ohio Turnpike, meaning spending more money for tolls. However, the trip from Cleveland requires less time on the Turnpike. And, the toll road can be avoided entirely if you don't mind a bit longer trip.
