“Want These Refs in Prison”: CFB Fans Unhappy as TCU Receives Unsportsmanlike Penalty vs UNC

The North Carolina Tar Heels took on the TCU Horned Frogs in Dublin, Ireland, this Saturday, with Bill Belichick’s men winning 15-10 in a very close and physical encounter. Bobby Petrino’s hand was clearly visible in a much more comfortable Tar Heel offense this time around.
However, it was a particular instance of the game that became viral online during the third quarter. With 12:40 left on the clock, the Horned Frogs achieved a new first down, and running back Jeremy Payne celebrated by signaling the new set of downs. For this, he was penalized with unsportsmanlike conduct, which immediately drew the ire of fans online:
“Naaahhh I want these refs in prison. That is NOT a penalty. Come on,” one fan said.
It was clear on social media that the majority of fans didn’t agree with the call.
One fan called it the worst call of the season, which isn’t saying much considering this was the first significant game of the year.
Other fans decided to joke around a bit.

Someone who wasn’t all into North Carolina’s decision-making this Week 0 is former NFL player Breiden Fehoko. Fehoko went on X during the game to criticize some of Bill Belichick’s decisions during the game:
“Bill Belichick kicking from the 2 but going for it 4th & 7 from the 27. I see why they kept him out of the Hall of Fame.”
The post has been deleted, likely since the Tar Heels came out on top.
