Much like the weather, the gaming calendar shows no signs of cooling down even after a blistering close to August with titles like Star Wars Zero Company, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, and Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 all launching the final week of the month. The race for airspace before Grand Theft Auto VI kicks into overdrive starting in September with one of the most jam-packed months I can remember.
With that in mind, let’s not waste another moment and dive right in with my top 10 video games that are coming out in September:
10) NBA 2K27 / NHL 27 / EA Sports FC 27 (Tie)
All right, I’m cheating a little bit here, but there are just too many games launching in September, and I wanted to recognize all three major sports titles. I’m a bit partial to the NBA 2K series myself, but EA’s annual hockey and soccer games typically do a good job as well.
Minecraft Dungeons II (Xbox Game Studios) on Steam9) Minecraft Dungeons II
Essentially a Fisher-Price My First Diablo, Minecraft Dungeons II packages action-RPG dungeon-crawling gameplay into a more family-friendly affair.
8) Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault
I really enjoyed the original Moonlighter. The concept of going into dungeons, collecting loot, and then running a shop where you sell said loot clicked with me. I’ve been waiting for the sequel to leave Early Access, which is officially happening on Sept. 2. Time to kill some goblins and price-gouge some villagers! Who’s with me?
Dune Awakening (Funcom) on Steam7) Dune: Awakening
It’s been over a year since the game landed on PC, and now console gamers are finally getting their turn. It’s more than a straight port, however, as the open-world MMO is adding a full single-player campaign to coincide with its arrival on consoles (as was prophesied).
6) Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
Nintendo’s long-running Fire Emblem series gets its first mainline release since 2023’s Engage. Having just played Star Wars Zero Company, I am reminded that a good turn-based tactical RPG is always welcome.

Silent Hill: Townfall (KONAMI) on Steam5) Silent Hill: Townfall
Konami is mixing up the formula for its survival horror franchise, bringing in Annapurna Interactive as co-publisher and making Townfall the series’ first full-length entry to use a first-person perspective. I am very intrigued to see how this turns out.
4) The Blood of Dawnwalker
Developer Rebel Wolves was co-founded by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, and this is its debut title. It’s an interesting premise, and the pedigree is there. We won’t have to wait long to see if it can put it all together when the game launches on Sept. 3.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword (Capcom) on Steam3) Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Essentially dormant for almost 20 years, Onimusha is back with Way of the Sword. Capcom has been on a generational run of quality titles, including Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata earlier this year. Can it keep that run going?
2) Marvel’s Wolverine
Wolverine is one of the coolest superheroes/antiheroes of all time, so developer Insomniac Games is under the microscope. Given what it did with the trilogy of Spider-Man games, I firmly believe it’s up to the task.
1) CONTROL Resonant
I went back and forth between Wolverine and CONTROL Resonant for the top spot before ultimately deciding on the latter. Remedy Entertainment’s last big release, 2023’s Alan Wake 2, was a masterpiece, and I can’t wait to check out its latest offering.
