Taylor Farms, the produce giant linked to the nation's largest-ever cyclospora outbreak that sickened more than 20,000 people this summer, has issued a new salad recall.
Taylor Farms of Dallas is recalling Backyard BBQ Chop Salad kits sold at H-E-B stores because they may contain allergens not properly listed on its packaging, according to an Oct. 27 notice from the Food and Drug Administration.
The recalled kits contain undeclared soy and tree nuts (almonds) that could trigger reactions in people with sensitivities or allergies. No adverse reactions have been reported to date.
Taylor Farms has been a consistent fixture in headlines this year after health officials identified iceberg lettuce grown by Taylor Farms de Mexico as the source of an unprecedented outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a gastrointenstinal illness caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. The FDA declared the outbreak over in September and said on Oct. 2 that it had concluded its investigation, which found cyclospora was present in the environment where the lettuce was grown and processed. This latest recall is not related to cyclospora or Taylor Farms de Mexico.
