Selena Gomez's latest natural moment is as refreshing as it is striking.
The singer, actress, producer and Rare Beauty founder shared a stunning makeup-free selfie to her Instagram story on Friday, a stark contrast and well-deserved reprieve from the glam of Sunday's Golden Globe Awards. In the photo, Gomez, 33, is radiant, relaxed and glowing from within. The pared-down look showed off her comfort and confidence with keeping things simple.
Gomez, who has been in the spotlight for the majority of her life, developed a passion for beauty in her early childhood and became interested in makeup at the age of 7.
"You're so young and then working. I have professionals doing my makeup, and suddenly I can look 25 when I was 16, and it was crazy," she told Elle in 2021. "Then I felt like: 'Oh, I look too young all the time. I should achieve that look more. I should try that.’ It just made me question my beauty for what it was."
But, over the years her relationship to makeup has changed, and definitely for the better.
"It's become a lot healthier as I've grown up. I used to want to wear makeup to look older or look more like other people," Gomez said in 2024. "Now I have a lot of fun with makeup—doing my friends' makeup or my own. I want to accentuate the features that make me unique instead of covering them up."
The entrepreneur founded Rare Beauty in 2020, and despite selling millions of dollars worth of beauty products, Gomez still believes that makeup is never essential.
"I hope Rare Beauty doesn’t give off the vibe that you have to do anything,” she told TIME.

Her stunning barefaced selfie comes on the heels of a Rare Beauty event celebrating the brand's new powdered bronzer. If there's one takeaway from Gomez's stunning photo, it's that true beauty comes from within.
