Morrissey is in need of some good ol’ R&R — rest and relaxation, not rock and roll.
The “Suedehead” singer, 66, scrapped his gig at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, Spain, on Thursday because he’s simply too sleepy after a local festival kept him up all night in his hotel room. Valencia is currently in the midst of hosting its annual Las Fallas Festival, a springtime celebration which runs from the 1st through the 19th of March.
“Having travelled for two days by road, Morrissey reached the hotel in Valencia late on Wednesday,” a statement on Morrissey’s website read. “Any form of sleep or rest throughout the night was impossible due to festival noise / loud techno singing / megaphone announcements. This experience has left Morrissey in a catatonic state.”

A later update confirmed that the show, in fact, could not go on.
“Tonight's scheduled show in Valencia has been rendered impossible due to sleep deprivation,” it read. “Morrissey drove from Milan to Valencia but has been unable to rest in Valencia due to noise. The show is not cancelled. Circumstances render the show impossible.”

Morrissey himself even complained about his overall experience, describing his Plaza de Manises hotel as “indescribable hell.” He added, “It will take me one year to recover. And that is an understatement.”
This isn’t the first time the rocker has called off a concert throughout his career. Last September, he canceled two gigs at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Conn., and the MGM Music Hall in Boston after he received an alleged death threat.
"In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey's life,” MGM Music Hall wrote in an Instagram statement at the time. “Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, tomorrow's engagement at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway has been cancelled."

Morrissey confirmed in a since-deleted Instagram post that the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band." It added, “All tickets will be refunded automatically at your original point of purchase. We appreciate your understanding.”
Mozza is currently scheduled to perform in two more Spanish cities, Zaragoza and Seville, on March 14 and 16. Here's hoping he manages to catch some z's before then.
