Amid the chatter around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the U.K. almost six years after their disassociation from the Royal family in 2020, a troubling development has been circulating about her. Reportedly, Meghan faced a daunting task in finding maids, housekeepers and staffers for her Montecito residence before she returned to the U.K. with her husband.
The reason for this is reportedly her “snobbish behavior,” which has led to many staff members reportedly being unwilling to work for the Sussexes.
An insider familiar with the situation revealed to Page Six that housekeepers are reportedly hesitant to work for Meghan because of her not-so-pleasant reputation. The insider said, “She had trouble hiring maids because a lot of the housekeepers in Montecito didn’t want to work for them.”
Housekeepers Refused to Work for Meghan Markle
The source added that the Duchess of Sussex would come across as “rude and snobbish” when interviewing potential housekeepers. Some were reportedly so offended by her behavior that word quickly spread around that the Sussexes were a terror to work for.
The source said, “Meghan would interview people herself and could come across as really snobbish and rude. Some of them were so offended by the way she spoke to them that word started getting around.”
Not only that, but the former Suits star’s behavior toward staffers became a running joke within the California communities where housekeepers reportedly got the clear message that they needed to stay clear of the Sussexes.

The insider said, “It got to the point where people would joke that all the maids in Montecito hated them.” The As Ever founder has also drawn attention in the past for her alleged mistreatment of her staff members.

According to the reports, around four staff members resigned from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s team in June 2025. They included the couple’s former deputy press secretary, Kyle Boulia, and former U.K. press officer Charlie Gipson. Another source reportedly confirmed to the publication that two members of their private team also recently quit their positions.
Before this, during her time as a working royal, the Harry & Meghan star was also accused of allegedly bullying the palace staffers, which reportedly led the palace to launch an investigation into the allegations. However, she denied the allegations.
Soon after the recent development surfaced on social media, the internet reacted. One of the social media users slammed Meghan Markle and said, “It seems that as they are leaving now, everyone is coming out of their woodwork to share what we already know. She is terrible to work with or for.”
Another X handle said, “Meghan Markle is a bully.” A user on X chimed in, “Meghan Markle mistreated the staff in front of Queen Elizabeth who called her out to stop this behavior. In the two years that she had worked for the Royal family, she also made some staff members cry and threw tea at another one. Since Suits, she had this diva attitude.”
