Months after Lola Young collapsed during a performance and sought help, the British singer looks back on that moment as a blessing in disguise.
In a new cover story interview with Rolling Stone published Wednesday, March 11, the "Messy" singer was asked about the viral clip where she collapsed mid-song at All Things Go Music Festival in New York City.
"I have watched it, yes," Young, 25, said. "I saw it once or twice, and I haven’t really gone back to it since. Obviously, I’m not going to be searching it... It’s not something I’d like to search."

Looking back, Young — who's been open about her cocaine addiction in the past — sees the incident in a new light.
"I am very grateful that it happened because it was, what do you call that? Like, a breaking point which allowed me to then be able to be here today, allowed me to be better for my fans, better for the future, and better for myself," she told the outlet.
Three days after Young collapsed on stage, she announced that she would be canceling all future tour dates and appearances.
"I’m going away for a while. It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future," she wrote in a Sept. 30 Instagram post. "Thank you for all the love and support."
She added, "I really hope you’ll give me a second chance once I’ve had some time to work on myself and come back stronger,” she wrote. "Love you all, Lola x."

Speaking with Rolling Stone, the "One Thing" singer said that the time away helped her realize that she needs to strike a balance. Though she faced criticism after she stepped away from the spotlight, she saw it as a necessity.

"One thing that’s really helped me is slowing down, mentally, taking time to process," she said. "Days off, that’s really important. Enjoying time with friends, people that love you."
“There was a bunch of hate, but you know what? F--- it,” Young continued. "When you’re doing something, there’s always going to be a couple motherf---ers talking s---. But at the same time, it was a decision, like I said, that I had to make, and it was sad that I had to do that. What else was I going to do, die? That was the reality of where my addiction was heading."
After taking a break, Young made a big return at the 2026 Grammys and delivered a live piano rendition of her hit "Messy." Later on that night, she took home her first Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance with "Messy."

Speaking with reporters in the press room, Young spoke about taking time off to protect her mental health.
"Now I am back. I feel better," Young said. "I will do as much that I can to be good for my fans, and to be good for the people that love me. Thank you for all of my fans and everyone that supports me and everyone who understands me. It’s a very beautiful moment."
