Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner have denied Ray J’s claim that they intentionally released the 2007 sex tape starring him and Kardashian.

The mother-daughter duo sued Ray J for defamation in October 2025, and amid their ongoing litigation, the 45-year-old singer alleged that Kardashian, 45, and Jenner, 70, leaked the tape on purpose.

Kardashian and Jenner responded publicly to the claim for the first time in court declarations filed in Los Angeles on Tuesday, March 10, and obtained by PEOPLE.

Calling the claims “false,” Kardashian says that she has “incurred expenses to combat” Ray J’s “lies and manage my wellbeing and reputation,” including undergoing therapy and working with “communications, legal and strategic advisors.”

“His claim that I had a plan with my mother and others to release a sex tape, defraud the public and file a ‘fake’ lawsuit against the porn company that released it to ‘create buzz’ is a lie,” Kardashian says, per her declaration.

Jenner also calls the claims “absolutely false,” saying in her declaration that she did not “ask, make, encourage or assist my daughter Kim in filming any sex tape or decide what tape to release, as Defendant further outrageously claimed in his cross-complaint.”

“As a mother, the notion that I orchestrated or produced sex tapes involving my daughter, or was in any way involved in the creation or distribution of any sex tapes, is not only entirely untrue but deeply offensive and harmful and has haunted me for decades,” Jenner continues, per the declaration. The mom of six goes on to say that she was “absolutely heartbroken, crushed and devastated as a mother to see my daughter in this situation where her most intimate and private moments were exposed to the world.”

“In no world would I ever be involved in any way, shape or form in peddling any tapes of my daughter like this. Defendant’s insinuations to the contrary are utterly false and disgusting,” Jenner adds.

Jenner also says that she incurred expenses “as a result of the emotional distress Defendant has subjected me to because of his awful lies about me and my daughter,” and also denies that she filed a “fake” lawsuit to create a “buzz” ahead of the tape’s release.

The tape, which was released in May 2007 by adult entertainment company Vivid Entertainment, launched Kardashian into the spotlight, with the Kardashian-Jenner family’s reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, premiering on E! later that year.

In their court declarations, both Kardashian and Jenner also deny Ray J’s allegations that they engaged in racketeering and committed RICO violations.

The legal battle began in October 2025 when Kardashian and Jenner sued Ray J — whom Kardashian dated for three years in the early 2000s — for defamation regarding claims he made about them allegedly being under investigation for racketeering. In their lawsuit, Kardashian and Jenner accused Ray J — a.k.a William Ray Norwood Jr. — of a “reckless disregard for the truth.”

In May and September 2025, Ray J publicly made comments on TMZ and Twitch comparing Kardashian and Jenner’s alleged behavior regarding the sex tape to RICO charges that were leveled against Sean “Diddy” Combs.

“Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian have never brought a defamation claim before nor have they been distracted by noise - but this false and serious allegation left no choice,” Kardashian and Jenner’s attorney Alex Spiro told PEOPLE in a statement at the time the lawsuit was filed.

The following month, Ray J filed a response and cross-complaint to the mother and daughter’s defamation lawsuit and denied all their allegations, calling it “a public relations charade” filled with “malicious falsehoods about Norwood” that is “not about defamation” but “about publicity, power and punishment.”

In his filing, Ray J accused Kardashian and Jenner of breach of contract for allegedly violating provisions of a $6 million settlement agreement they entered into in 2023 over the tape.

Ray J claimed that the sex tape, which was recorded in 2003, was filmed consensually and that he and Kardashian began talking about releasing three years later in 2006.

The singer-songwriter further claimed that Kardashian insisted her mom oversee the tape’s release, and the cross-complaint also alleges that Ray J, Kardashian and Jenner all signed licensing agreements with Vivid Entertainment.

The filing claimed that Kardashian and Jenner “manufactured a fresh fake Sex Tape ‘controversy’ ” to “generate publicity” for the premiere of their Hulu series The Kardashians in April 2022. The complaint also claimed that on the reality show Kardashian said Ray J gave their leaked sex tape “which she knows he never possessed,” to his “former manager” and that he “sexually assaulted her” while she slept.

According to the lawsuit, Kardashian, Jenner, Kendall Jenner and Kardashian’s ex-husband Kanye West also made statements on the show, accusing Ray J of extorting them for a laptop supposedly containing an additional unreleased sex tape.

In his filing, Ray J stated that he contacted Kardashian on Instagram in April 2022 to “confront her” about the comments made about him on The Kardashians. “Kardashian begged him to go along with yet another false ‘story' that she wanted to run on the show: that they were working with Vivid to remove the Sex Tape from the internet,” per the cross-complaint, which alleges that Ray J “declined.”

Ray J asked the court to dismiss the defamation lawsuit, citing terms of the alleged agreement and damage to his business prospects. He is seeking $1 million in damages, plus attorneys’ fees and additional relief that may be deemed “just and proper.”

In a statement to Billboard on Thursday, March 12, Ray J’s attorney, Howard King, said that Kardashian’s statements “are demonstrably false and could subject her to criminal perjury prosecution.”

“If Ms. Kardashian is so concerned about demonstrating to the State Bar that she possesses the requisite moral character to be admitted to the Bar, when and if she passes the bar exam, she should not be committing perjury,” added King, referencing Kardashian’s ongoing efforts to try and pass the California bar exam and become a licensed attorney.

Both sides are asking a judge to throw out the other’s claims. A hearing on Ray J’s dismissal motion was held last week, with a ruling is expected soon, per Billboard.
