Jon Pardi’s Wife Summer Reveals Father’s Cancer Diagnosis Ahead of Divorce Announcement

Summer Pardi revealed her father’s cancer diagnosis less than 24 hours before she and her husband, country singer Jon Pardi, announced their plans to divorce
Her father, Larry Duncan, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that also affects the bones
Summer and Jon were married for five years and share two young daughters
Less than 24 hours before Jon and Summer Pardi announced their divorce, Summer shared that her father was diagnosed with cancer.
“A little life update on my dad.. i know everyone on here loves him dearly, even those who don't know him personally. He's a special guy and he's gonna kick cancers ass,” she wrote under a post shared to her Instagram Stories on Thursday, July 2.
The upload was a repost from her father Larry Duncan’s Instagram page with him explaining “why I haven’t been very active on Social Media.”

Duncan said he injured his back in a tractor accident and “finally dragged” himself to the ER after months of pain when he learned he had “several bone fractures and bulging discs.”
“Further testing revealed the fractures were related to multiple myeloma, a cancer that’s been quietly weakening my bones over time,” he said.
Multiple myeloma is a blood cancer that develops in plasma cells in the bone marrow, according to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. The organization adds that the disease is "highly manageable."
After sharing that he’s started treatment, Duncan said, “I have a great team of doctors around me, and I’m actually grateful to finally have some answers — even if it’s not exactly the kind of plot twist I was hoping for.”
He let his followers know he would continue to take a step back on social media to focus on his health, and ended his message wishing love to all.
“I’m in a good place mentally and taking it a day at a time ‘fighting to not let the old man in!’” he wrote.

Hours after Summer’s repost, she and Jon, 41, jointly announced the end of their marriage after five years.
“After much thought, we have made the difficult decision to end our marriage,” the pair wrote in a joint Instagram statement. “Our daughters will always remain our highest priority and we are committed to moving forward with love and respect as co-parents.”
“Thank you so much for your understanding, support, and respect as we navigate these changes as a family,” they added.

The “Dirt on My Boots” singer and the 37-year-old were introduced by a friend of his mother's — who was a client of Summer's when she worked as a hairstylist — in 2017.
"Long story short, Jon's mom sent him my number," Summer told PEOPLE in 2020. "He was performing in my hometown, and he called me and invited me to the show. I was in Las Vegas so I said, 'Maybe next time you’re in town.' Obviously, I wasn't aware of how tour life worked so he came back with, 'How about I fly you to Denver next week?'”

He proposed in October 2019, and they wed the following year in Tennessee.
The former couple welcomed daughters Presley Fawn, 3, and Sienna Grace, 2, during their relationship.
