Jodie Sweetin shared new insight into her current relationship with former Full House costars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

"They have a different relationship to being on set all the time," Sweetin noted. "They might not remember being 2 years old and having us all carrying them around and doing this stuff, but I do."

The actress also spoke about the twins' decision not join the cast for the Fuller House revival.

Jodie Sweetin would like to make it clear that there is no bad bad between the Tanner sisters!

The actress, who played middle daughter Stephanie on Full House, opened up about her relationship with former co-stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen during an appearance on on Taboo's Comics and Kicks podcast Tuesday. The duo — who portrayed the youngest Tanner daughter, Michelle, on all eight seasons the beloved ABC sitcom — were two of the few stars not to reprise their role for the Netflix revival of the hit '90s show, Fuller House.

"Everyone's on good terms with them, but they were 8 years old when this show stopped," Sweetin explained. "Then, they did all of those movies and all that stuff that I don't know that they really loved doing all the time."

Mary-Kate and Ashley began their acting career both playing the role of Michelle on Full House at 9 months old before going on to star in more than 30 films together, including It Takes Two, Double, Double, Toil and Trouble, To Grandmother’s House We Go and How the West Was Fun.

The sisters stepped away from the public eye at the height of their fame and founded their luxury fashion house, The Row, in 2005. They've officially retired from acting more than a decade ago and now run The Row with Mary-Kate serving as creative director, and Ashley as CEO.

As Sweetin pointed out of acting, "this isn't what they love."

While Sweetin and her Fuller House co-stars previously gushed about returning for the revival, the 44-year-old reasoned that the Olsen duo was too young to have the same feelings about their first role.

"They have a different relationship to being on set all the time," she explained. "Like, they might not remember being 2 years old and having, you know, us all carrying them around and doing this stuff, but I do, you know, and I think that's not their thing."

She added, "Their empire blew up and they don't want attention, and I get it. They had so much and were so invaded and for public consumption. I totally understand why they don't want to do that."

While Fuller House couldn't have Michelle, they did include a cheeky nod to the notoriously private duo behind her character in the series' debut episode.

"Basically it's the first episode of Fuller House and the whole family's back. We're standing in the kitchen and we're talking about all being together again," Sweetin recalled. "And then we say something about, 'Well, if only Michelle were here, or Michelle's off running her fashion empire in New York.' And then every we all just kind of looked to the camera like, 'Uh-huh.' Sweetin said that the cast respected Mary-Kate and Ashley's decision not to join them for the revival, but "we figured we'd, you know, toss it out there and be silly anyway."

She emphasized that the joke was not a dig at the twins, but instead a funny way to mention their absence.

"You have to address it," she said. "You can't just not say anything."

Sweetin shared a similar sentiment while discussing her relationship with the twins on an April episode of The McBride Rewind podcast hosted by Josh McBride.

She shared that over the two decades since Full House's end, they "haven't talked" as much simply because their lives took very different trajectories.

"People are like, 'Oh, well, do you guys not talk? Is it bad?' They were 8 years old when the show finished. We weren't as close as we were," she explained to McBride at the time. "We would see each other at, you know, our family events and dinners and it wasn't like there was bad blood between any of us, but they moved to New York and then, you know, got married and were a fashion empire and sort of moved into that world and, you know, so it was like we just sort of drifted apart."

It wasn't until 2022, when their onscreen father Bob Saget suddenly passed away, that the entire Full House cast reunited. "And it was just like it was before," recalled Sweetin. "It was normal. We all, you know, spent like four days just constantly together... and it was like nothing had changed."
