Jennifer Lopez is getting ready to release new music, and her kids are the reason. The “On the Floor” singer says she felt inspired to write and record again after her twins, Max and Emme, left home for college.

She shared the sweet news in an interview with Variety, and the first taste of her new sound is almost here.

Jennifer Lopez’s twins leaving home for college has her returning to music

Jennifer Lopez says empty nest feelings inspired her return to the studio. The singer, who shares Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony, admits that watching them leave felt “devastating and sad and scary.” It is a feeling many parents know all too well. Faced with a life that suddenly looked different, she found herself wondering what to do with all her new free time.

Her answer was to head right back to the studio. In fact, the proud mom says she has written some of the best songs of her career, and she cannot wait for fans to hear them. Overall, she describes the upcoming project as an upbeat, joyful collection with just a hint of bittersweet emotion.

To kick off the project, the first new song, “Proof of Love,” will arrive in November as a bonus track on the first-ever vinyl release of her 2011 album, “Love?”. Lopez explains that the track is a happy dance anthem with a deeper meaning.

Specifically, the song treats the pain and grief of missing someone as evidence of how strong that love really is. Through the lyrics, she wanted to turn that heartache into a positive marker of love instead of a heavy, painful moment.

Furthermore, more music is on the way. Lopez teased that “Proof of Love” will soon be followed by a couple of other fun, upbeat tracks.

Fans can already pre-order the “Love?” vinyl, which comes in three different versions. Pre-orders opened on Oct. 28. The album is Lopez’s seventh studio release and features fan favorites like “On the Floor” with Pitbull, “I’m Into You” with Lil Wayne, and “Papi.”
