Grammy winner Lil Nas X shares heartbreaking four-word tribute after mother's death

Lil Nas X shared a heartbreaking update with his fans as he confirmed that his mother, Tameka Hill, has died.
The Grammy award-winning rapper and singer took to Instagram on Saturday, August 29, where he his fans on the devastating news. He wrote, “RIP TO THE BADDEST EVER! LOVE U FOREVER MOMMY. this one’s gonna hurt.”
Nas, 27, added three images to the post, including one of his mom posing in blue sequinned leggings with a co-ordinating bikini top, a second of them posing together at an event, and a third of him as a child with her. Her exact age and cause of death are as yet unconfirmed. It comes as Lil Nas X made a brave admission following his troubling arrest video.

Nas has previously spoken about his mom in limited quantities, having described her as an “addict” with whom he had a strained relationship during a 2020 interview with Variety. He said, “She’s an addict, so we don’t have the closest relationship. Even trying to get her better — things didn’t quite work out. But there’s still love.”

Nas - real name Montero Hill - recently shared he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had entered rehab for help and support with his mental health. His mother's death comes just days after Nas celebrated his "10,000th day alive."

An August 24 update on Instagram saw him share a post of a cake he had made honoring the huge milestone. He said, “So, tomorrow is my 10,000th day alive and…I made it! A lot of y’all won’t make it but I made it.”
Nas had taken almost a year out before he returned to his social media in June to update fans on his battle with his mental health.
Speaking in a video on June 17 he said, “I’ve been in rehab for a few months and since then, I’ve been back at home whether it’s in Atlanta with my family or in Los Angeles with myself, friends and what not, and trying to ground myself down to earth and get out of my head. I have a therapist now and a psychiatrist, which has been really helpful when I got my bipolar disorder diagnosis.
“I feel like I had known for like the past few years but I didn’t want to admit to it because I didn’t want to have to take medication and have people think different of me... Black, gay, bipolar. I’m living life on like extreme hard mode. But on a serious note, I’m doing much better. I’m doing better, I’m feeling better."
He then admitted his excitement to begin “this next chapter,” as he thanked his fans for their support. He said, “I love you and all I want to do is continue to try to make you guys proud and make myself proud.”
