Britney Spears has pleaded guilty in her DUI case.

On Monday, May 4, the pop star pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol at an arraignment at a Ventura County courthouse, the New York Times reports. She was originally arrested on March 4 in Ventura, Calif.

Spears, 44, had been charged with a misdemeanor, prosecutors in the Ventura County District Attorney's Office announced on Thursday, April 30.

At the time, officials said that Spears would likely be offered what is known as a “wet reckless,” as she does not have a prior DUI history, there was no crash or injury in her arrest, and she had a low blood alcohol level.

Per standard protocol, a wet reckless allows a person to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and/or drugs and be put on probation for 12 months while receiving credit for any time spent in custody.

The person must pay state-mandated fines and fees and is required to complete a DUI class.

Days before her arraignment, PEOPLE confirmed Spears had left a treatment facility, which she had voluntarily entered weeks earlier.

After the arrest, a rep for Spears told PEOPLE that the "unfortunate incident" was "completely inexcusable."

"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time," the statement read.

A second source told PEOPLE that Spears — who shares sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with ex-husband Kevin Federline — sought help because of her children.

"Her sons were a big part of getting her to rehab. They've been clear with her. They just want her to be healthy," the source said.
