Al Roker shared a special tribute to celebrate his granddaughter's birthday.

On Friday, July 3, the Today weather anchor, 71, posted a sweet video on Instagram to commemorate his granddaughter Sky's 3rd birthday. Roker, who first became a grandfather in 2023 when his eldest daughter Courtney gave birth to her baby girl, shared a few photos from over the years, including him holding her as a baby and a snap from her birthday festivities.

"Three years ago, at 11:41am, Sky Clara Laga came into the world and made it juuuuust a little bit brighter," he wrote in the caption for the video, which was set to "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes. "Happy Birthday, my smart, beautiful, funny granddaughter."

Back in July 2023, Today show anchors officially announced the news that Roker stepped into his new role as pop-pop. Roker's Today family shared that his daughter Courtney, her husband Wesley Laga and their family "couldn't be happier" to welcome the healthy baby girl.

Following the new addition's entrance into the world, the longtime Today weatherman was beaming on the NBC morning show as he opened up about his new granddaughter.

"It is magical, it really is," he said while discussing the milestone of becoming a grandparent in a conversation with Today co-anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones. "The thing is, everyone tells you it’s going to be 'this thing' and you don’t know; it’s like when they tell you about having your first child. And then to hold this little girl, knowing almost 35 years ago I held her mom? And here she is, 5 lbs., 15 oz. 19 inches long and she’s just perfect."

"I’m telling you, she’s a great sleeper," he added of Sky. "Sleeps for four hours, wakes up, goes to the bathroom, sleeps another four. We’re on the same schedule!"

The following year, Roker opened up about how he fulfills his grandpa duties. He shared that he ultimately had to learn how to take a step back and let his kids pursue their own parenting styles with their children.

"Look, our kids have to find their path," Roker told Today. "Everybody’s parental style is different. So, you kind of let them find their way. You can gently suggest things and your kids can take that and use it or not. And once you’ve given that advice, you have to let it go, because they have to find their way."

The proud father and grandfather continued to share his pride for his daughter and the family she's created.

"I’m very proud of my daughter and my son-in-law," Roker explained. "They’re terrific parents and they’ve raised this, so far, incredibly happy baby who’s just very content, and very adventurous when it comes to food and just has a very, very lovely, happy disposition."

"So it's like, 'Well, whatever you’re doing, you’re doing a great job. I know it feels like it’s this all-consuming gig because in fact it is. But you’re doing a great job,'" he added.
