The fall collections delivered a wave of bold new fashion ideas. Designers offered fresh interpretations of familiar classics: straight-laced skirt suits shed of their stiffness, becoming lighter and more modern; Art Deco–inspired dresses reimagined with intricate embellishments and in unexpected fabrics.

They also embraced a new kind of opulence, turning to animal prints and bows—warped into new shapes, blown up to dramatic proportions, or transformed into swaying fringe. Ruffles were tucked beneath peplums and sumptuous velvet draping added romance, while futuristic materials like PVC, rubber, and fiberglass all made appearances.

There were moments of genuine restraint—flashes of white layered over beige and plenty of easy bomber jackets—but on balance, the new season is challenging us all to take a sartorial leap. If you’re feeling even a hint of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy minimalism fatigue at the moment, then consider these collections a worthy antidote. They were bigger, bolder, and sexier than what we’ve seen in a good while—and unapologetically glamorous.

Below, the 13 trends set to define fall—and well worth trying on for size.
